OBTC Local Happenings
OB Entry Sign Finalists
The current Ocean Beach entryway sign has been weathered by 20+ years of sea air and termite damage. We now have five finalists for the sign (including keeping the same design, but refurbishing it)! Only members of the OB Town Council can cast an official vote for their favorite, so become a member today and vote! www.obtowncouncil.org/join-obtc. Either way, please post your constructive and respectful comments on Facebook — it is the best way to let members know your favorites!
Option 1 (in no particular order): Keep the same design, but renovate the sign. The wood in the current sign has rotted and it must be replaced, but members of the Council can vote to keep the same design.
Option 2: Stained Glass with Beach and Parrot.
Option 3: Current design, adding parrots. Option 4: Option 5:Keep your bills lower and save energy during chilly weather
Keep your bills lower and save energy during chilly weather
Mornings sure have been chilly lately, and some of our space heaters are working over time. Even if you’ve turned something off, it may still be using small amounts of electricity for as long as it’s plugged in. Here are tips from SDG&E® to save energy.
- Buy a power strip for your entertainment center – and remember to use it! Your TV, sound and gaming systems can all be plugged into a power strip and one button turns everything off. Some strips even come with a remote control.
- Appliances with glowing lights or displays (like coffee makers) use small amounts of electricity all day and night, which can add up over time. Unplug them when it makes sense.
- You can get timers for your electronics that require charging – the timer allows you to plug in your phone or tablet computer and not waste electricity once it’s fully charged.
Another way to save is making sure your heating system is in working order. Here are ways that SDG&E can help:
- Have your gas appliances checked at no cost.
- Before you buy a new furnace, see if you qualify for the Energy Savings Assistance Program. If you qualify, you may receive a new furnace and other energy-efficient appliances and services for free. Learn more.
- If you’re in the market for other appliances, check for SDG&E rebates.
- Get your central heating and A/C system tuned up and ready to run efficiently all winter long with AC Quality Care.

While the beginning of October has been more like summer, cooler temperatures are right around the corner. With it comes sweaters, jackets and making sure your home is ready for the change of seasons. SDG&E® can help.
Halloween isn’t the only time phantoms can be in your home. “Phantom energy use” means that even though you’ve turned something off, it may still be using small amounts of electricity for as long as it’s plugged in. Here are tips to save energy and chase those phantoms out!
