Ocean Beach Unveils Gateway as Unique as its Community

Park designed to feature “O.B.” character; funded by donations and grants

SAN DIEGO — Council President Pro Tem Kevin L. Faulconer and County Supervisor Greg Cox joined Ocean Beach residents to cut the ribbon on the first phase of the Ocean Beach Gateway Park. The grand opening is the culmination of 15 years of planning and fundraising by local leaders and the non-profit Ocean Beach Community Development Corporation.

Author Diana Lindsay on the MARSHAL SOUTH and the GHOST MOUNTAIN EXPERIMENT
Thurs., Feb. 16th, at 7 PM, P.L. United Methodist Church, 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., O.B.
For 17 years, from 1930 to 1947, poet, artist, and author Marshal South and his wife Tanya lived on Ghost Mountain—a remote, waterless mountaintop that is today within California’s Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. They began their homesteading adventure when the Great Depression left them few options to survive. They turned to nature and began an experiment in natural living that included raising a family under the most primitive conditions.

UPDATE: A press conference will be held this FRIDAY, January 27th at 11am on the corner of Balboa Dr. at El Prado. To show your support of the bill Senator Juan Vargas will be authoring (SB973) be at the press conference and wear your neighborhood or organization t-shirts - this will help illustrate how many different groups, neighborhoods and organizations are being affected by the law suit.

Over sixty local merchants attended the first annual Member Marketing Breakfast held at Nick's at the Pier on Tues., Jan. 10th. The Marketing Breakfast is the first in a series of new programs offered to members of the OBMA, called the Business Development Series. Programs will take place once a quarter and offer resources and useful information to all types of local business owners. The first event each year will focus on marketing and promotions for the upcoming year.

Ocean Beach Historical Society has pledged $100 to the Congress of History upcoming conference ‘From Inkwells to Internet: The History of Learning in the San Diego Region’

Starting this Friday, January 6th at sunset, Tower Two Cafe will host Tunes at Tower Two - a family accoustic OB Jam Session! Each week they will celebrate the sunset by offering live music in the restaurant. Beginning this Friday with MC Cotton, all happy hour prices will be in effect during the jam sessions. Monday - Friday from 2pm to close enjoy $2 grilled wahoo tacos, $6 pitchers of Tower Two Brew and half price hot wings.
