It's Pet Portrait Day at the OB Business Center! The OBBC has teamed up with David Veit,  San Diego News10's A-List's "Best Pet Photographer 2011". David is an experienced trainer as well as a pet photographer and will get the very best from your pet and their humans!  Pets and their families can have a professional portrait session with Photos or Gallery Wrap Canvas portraits created on site.  What a wonderful opportunity to create a very special and personal gift for that very special person. Music classes offered at PL United Methodist Church

OBMA receives its national MainStreet accreditation again this year

Since 1997 the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association (formerly the Ocean Beach Merchants Association) has received it national accreditation as a MainStreet.  We recently learned that due to our progress as a community in 2011, we have received our accreditation again this year.  Following is some explanation on the national program and the benefits of being a part of something like that.

Due to OB Time (People not making the deadline) we are extending the due date on photo entries to May 17th. The sooner the better to allow us prep time and tags!

Come be a part of the 18th Annual OB EXPOSED! Photographic Impressions of Ocean Beach & Point Loma
Fri., may 18th, 6 PM-8:30 PM at the Masonic Center, 1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., O.B., Featuring Wonderland Series Documentarian
Noah Tafolla – Refreshments Included.

• A photo exhibit and contest (open to all levels and ages) You don’t have to live here, just love this area!
• Photos must be taken in Ocean Beach or Point Loma- Old photos, new photos, color or black & white… any photo
Winning categories are:
Best in Show, Best Color, Best Black & White, Best Vintage (historic), Best “Special Effects”, Best Child’s Under age 16 & People’s Choice (voted by show attendees)
Photos in above categories will be judged and eligible for prizes. Winners in each category will be awarded cash prizes and a ribbon.  Photographers are asked to donate image to the OBHS archives.
Professional Category: For Exhibit Only… Not Judged.
• Professional Photographers will be allowed to put cards and/or brochures by their work.They do not have to donate photos to the OBHS archives, unless they choose to. Professionals may also enter other categories.

Specifications: Submit by May 17th to OB Business Center, 4876 Santa Monica – OB (9 am – 5 pm, Mon. – Fri.)
All photos must be matted or mounted on card stock or other art paper (No frames, please)
Fill out the form below and attach to the back of photo, Include a $1 entry fee (per photo) when you drop off photo(s)
Ocean Beach Historical Society is not responsible for lost or damaged photos.
Note: Photos will be available for pick up after 8:30 pm the event night or at The OB Business Center (M-F).
Any photos not picked up after 30 days will be the property of the Ocean Beach Historical Society.

OBMA hosts second Business Development Series event of 2012

A new event to the OB MainStreet Association annual calendar this year is the Business Development Series.  It began with a meeting at Nick's in January as a way for the OBMA to convey to its membership all of the opportunities they had to promote themselves.  There are many opportunities through the OBMA's website and social media that are no additional cost to members, as well as many co-oped advertising opportunities at discounted rates for local businesses to take advantage of.  About eighty local business

Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga day classes are being offered at the Point Loma United Methodist Church, Monday through Thursday. The classes are open to all levels of experience and physical ability, including seniors and those with special conditions. The Chair Yoga classes are wheelchair accessible. Personal Yoga Therapy is available by appointment.

at the P.L. United Methodist Church, , 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., O.B.
Richard Dhu, Program Manager at the San Diego River Park Foundation is a 20 year O.B. resident and homeowner (Brighton and Abbott) and San Diego Native.
The San Diego River Park Foundation is dedicated to the restoration of the San Diego River, which completes its 52-mile journey to the Pacific at Dog Beach in O.B.; and creation of the San Diego River Park System and river trail from Julian to O.B.
The San Diego River Park Foundation promotes community involvement and stewardship of the river and watershed. Our specific projects in O.B. are management of the Native Plant Garden/Reserve at Collier Park and the coastal dune and wetland habitat at Dog Beach.

Local retiree spends his days doing the community good!

A local do-gooder, Greg Geiselman, a recipient of the Community Partner Award for Outstanding Efforts - Graffiti Abatement has been busy! Come to find out he has been working to eradicate Dogs Beach and Robb Field of a pesky weed - Goatshead - for years.  We only discovered this other good deed of his when we opened up our KPBS email.  Way to go Greg!

She has helped develop everything from festival artwork to our Newport Ave.

Amazing WISTERIA PARTY

The Ocean Beach Historical Society Presented: THE Annual WISTERIA TEA PARTY
Sun.,  March 25th, at 4761 Niagara Ave., 92107 (OB)
Forecast rain didn’t stop over 100 OBHS members from a afternoon of partying. The Wisteria Tea Party was held at the Titlow house in memory of Ned.
In the yard of a early 1900’s home, we celebrated under the largest Wisteria canopy in OB, where guests will enjoy tasty delectables while listening to live music by VIOLINIST ALICIA PREVIN and CELLIST MARK SANDER, SINGER ANTONIO JOHNSON, SINGER/ACCORDIONIST BILL CORWIN,  VIOLINIST GINA and husband KENNY JAMES ON mandolin. OBHS surprised Ron May with the OBHS 2012 Historian Award for his many years promoting history and preservation. The opportunity drawing was a great success with wonderful prizes donated by local businesses and friends of OBHS.


PLHS Surf Team beats undefeated Calrsbad!

The Point Loma Scholastic Surf Series Team, lead by Lou Ghio since 1996, has had a great season thus far.  They meet Tuesdays at the Ocean Beach Pier and compete with other teams in the Scholastic Series.  Over the years the Series has grown and they are now competing against schools all over the county.
